Andy, Can You Hear Us? Communing with Warhol at His Gravesite surveys 10 years (2009–2019) of my daily documentation of, and experience with, visitors to Andy Warhol's grave at the St. John Byzantine Cemetery in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The Winter chapter is the first in a series of four seasonal books revealing how Warhol’s legacy in art, ideas, and life continues to inspire me and the many others who participated in the project either by a chance meeting or at a planned event at the gravesite, such as Andy’s death memorial anniversaries. His habit of collecting ephemera into time capsules is similar to what visitors give to Andy at his gravesite, extending the archive as “afterlife” time capsules of Warhol’s life and myth. Andy, Can You Hear Us? also offers a unique view of the pull that the artist, art promoter, and Pop culture icon continues to exert on people from all walks of life, right from his Pittsburgh-area burial site.
